Whenever we have been there, the grassy shaded area, which is really big, is full of groups..ive seen parties there. One thing to be mindful of is that Garvey is right on the Swan river. (Water and kids) Aside from that its lovely for a picnic and probably suitable for a birthday if parents stay to watch their kids. Parking can be a problem. Its not always possible to park at the cafe. There is a car park (from memory) near the strange building on the left on the way in. I hope this is of help :)
