We got a tuk-tuk from Lanquin, which was great and took about 15/20 minutes. You have to pay in cash on entry and they would not give us change! So make sure to take the right amount. We did the Mira… Full review by Ruby W

Guatemala in September So me and boyfriend are thinking about Guatemala in September however we are afraid that we cannot take buses of visit Semuc Champey due to bad road conditions- is this the case? Does it rain so much that roads become super bad? Does any one has had experience graveling in Guatemala by bus in September or during rainy season? Thanks!!

We did it in Apr & there were several days of rain during our time in Guatemala. The day before our trip to Semuc, the heavens opened in Lanquin & we thought the pools would be brown, even if we even could get to them. No problem...the trucks & buses that take you appear to me to be ready for this weather, they can't afford to stop all operations for the whole rainy season. I think you'll be ok. have a look at Semuc reviews & search for some for September time. Good luck, it's worth it
I’m trying to decide what to do with my last 3 days in Guatemala. I’ve been studying Spanish at a language school in Antigua and I want to take a trip my last few days. I’m trying to decide between going to Xela, Rio Dulce, or Semuc Champey. I would like to leave Saturday morning (the 29th of June) and spend the night in Guatemala City on Monday (the 1st of July), my flight is the 2nd in the afternoon, so I need to spend the night in the city. In Xela, I’m really interested in visiting Fuentes Georgina. I think it could be relaxing after studying for so long. I would think Semuc Champey could be elaxing while also exciting. I’m just worried about the weather. It hasn’t been raining much in Antigua, so it makes me feel like it will be okay. In regards to Rio Dulce, I think the nature looks gorgeous. Can someone point me in the right direction? I can’t make up my mind

Semuc Champey is wonderful but it's about 7 hours ride either by car or bus. I would stay in Antigua which is only 45 minutes from the airport. And go to Lake atitlan (2 hours from antigua), which is very relaxing and the views are incredible. The problem with Rio dulce, and semuc champey, its that you are going to spend a lot more time in transportation.
