Hello, If you were purchase a good bag last time than that would be enough for EBC in November. During November there will be pretty warm and a sleeping bag which can work around -5 to -10 is good enough. But your bag should be in a good condition, apart from that you can rent a bag in Kathmandu for short term.

Hello, A friend and I are planning on doing the Everest Base Camp (EBC) with a possibility of climbing Island Peak (IP) in May 2020. I’m trying to figure out what the best cost-value would be for us to do this trek. Since we are in athletic shape, our idea would be to obtain our own permits for the trek/climb (I don’t believe these are difficult or too expensive to obtain), hire a guide to meet us at EBC to start IP, pay the overweight baggage fee for round trip flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (since we would bring our own climbing gear and the weight limit is 10kg), then trek to EBC carrying our own stuff. We’d rather not spend $3,000-$6,000 for all-inclusive package deal if we are able to carry our own gear. I’ve read on a Trip Advisor forum one could negotiate paying $600-$800/person for a guide to meet you at EBC and take you to the summit of IP. Is this plan feasible? Any logistical issues/estimates I’m missing? Thoughts? Thanks -Jeremy

Hey mate Straight up you are going to have an amazing time. EBC can be done solo for sure, however you should be wary of altitude sickness and and the onset of bad weather which can happen pretty quickly With regards to Island Peak, you can actually hire a guide and porter from Dengboche or chuckung not from EBC Also you can hire all your climbing gear from these villages rather than bringing your own. It’s relatively cheap. The cost for Island peak is around the $US750 mark, this includes the guide, porter and climbing permit. If this is your first time I would suggest hiring a guide and porter for the entire trip, that would cost around $US2300, which would include accomodation, food, guide porter and climbing equipment needed. Also at peak times, which is when you are going the accomodation bookings has changed and is quite complex, you can’t just rock up at a tea house anymore, and at that time of the year they get booked out pretty quickly. Not sure who quoted you the $6000 mark, that’s way to much. I’m happy to suggest reliable trekking agencies should you wish, just send me a PM. Good luck on your trip, I’ve been there 3 times and am planing a fourth
