A Volusia County surfer who was in the hospital after a surfing accident has died, the man’s friend told WKMG News6 on Wednesday.

Jorge Alvarado, who was on life support after suffering a serious injury while surfing in Daytona Beach, Florida, has passed away. Alvarado was 49 years old.

Local surfer Jorge Alvarado passed away Tuesday night after a tragic accident on Friday. Alvarado was surfing the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores when he fell off his board and hit his head on the sandbar.
