The operator, which runs services between Glasgow and London, North West England and the West Midlands, is warning passengers to travel either side of Hogmanay and January 2.

Members of the RMT union at Avanti West Coast will walk out on New Year’s Eve and January 2 in a dispute over rest day working.

Avanti West Coast workers are to stage a series of strikes beginning on New Year’s Eve. It comes after workers rejected the latest deal aimed at resolving a dispute over rest day working.

"Avanti West Coast created this dispute by ignoring train managers' concerns and presenting offers those members deemed unacceptable."

Rail passengers on Avanti West Coast routes will face a "significantly reduced" service on New Year's Eve due to a strike by train managers. A dispute over rest days will see train managers who are members of the RMT union walk out on 31 December and 2 January.
