Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr., 22, of Grenada, was arrested less than a month after Lee's disappearance. Herrington is awaiting trial on a capital murder charge.

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — A Lafayette County circuit court judge declared a missing Ole Miss student dead. The parents of Jimmie “Jay” Lee filed a request with the court in September, and court documents show the judge granted their request. Lee disappeared in July 2022 in Oxford. He’s had no communication with his parents since then.

A missing Ole Miss student, believed to have been killed more than two years ago, was officially declared dead last month. Jimmie and Stephanie Lee, parents of Jimmie “Jay” Lee, filed the motion in early September asking Lafayette County Circuit Court to declare their son legally dead.
