Pagers used by hundreds of members of Hezbollah exploded almost simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria Tuesday, killing at least 12 people.

Walkie-talkies and other devices exploded suddenly Wednesday at the site of a funeral for three Hezbollah members and a child killed by exploding pagers the day before. Lebanon’s health ministry says at least nine people were killed and 300 were wounded.

The deadly Hezbollah-pager explosions are causing mounting distrust, with some Lebanon residents abandoning their electronic devices.

Hezbollah has vowed to respond to an Israeli attack that killed multiple people and injured thousands across Lebanon on Tuesday when pagers belonging to members of the Iran-backed militant group exploded almost simultaneously,

Israel bombed southern Lebanon on Thursday and said it had thwarted an Iranian-led assassination plot after explosions in booby-trapped radios and pagers in the past two days caused bloody havoc in the ranks of its arch-foe Hezbollah.

Pagers, used every day by health care professionals, became a deadly weapon Tuesday as thousands of them simultaneously exploded in Lebanon.

The Hezbollah militant group said it is conducting a "security and scientific investigation” into the explosion of pagers across Lebanon on Tuesday.
