Google is expanding efforts to properly label AI-generated content, updating its in-house "About This Image" tool with a global standard for detecting the origins of an AI-edited image. The new label was formulated as part of Google's work with the global Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA).

People can make good use of the option --' About this image' -- as it offers context about the images they see online and is accessible in Google Images, Lens and Circle to Search. The content produced by Google Products such as Pixel Studio will come with SynthID — embedded watermarking created by Google DeepMind.

By using a photo's metadata, the feature can determine whether it's original, edited by software, or produced by AI.
