While the upcoming console is yet to be officially unveiled by the company, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 (or whatever it's called) will be backwards compatible with the original console. It's great news for fans of the Nintendo Switch, which has amassed quite the library since launching back in 2017.

Nintendo hasn’t announced its Switch successor yet, but we do know one thing for sure: it will be able to play current Switch games and have carryover for your Nintendo Switch Online services and account. The news was announced during Nintendo’s midyear policy briefing, with further information promised “at a later date.”

In a post on the official Nintendo investor relations account on X, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said that “Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to
