A fight at a southwest Atlanta gas station ended with one man being rushed to the hospital and another man on the run, police say.

One person was killed in a shooting in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood on Monday afternoon, according to police.

“Shortly after being waved down, Lt. (Gerald) Johnson approached an encounter with a perpetrator who had an assault-type rifle. They exchanged gunfire,” Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat told C hannel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter during a Monday night news conference. The gunman and Johnson were both injured. The shooter later died from their injuries.

A person was shot overnight in southwest Atlanta.Atlanta police say around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to shots fired on the 1800 block of Lisbon Drive SW and found a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
