The India Open and Women’s category clinched gold at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest on Sunday. Fans and well-wishers were overwhelmed by the teams’ historic performances.

India claimed maiden gold medals in both open and women’s section of the Chess Olympiad in Hungary on Sunday. India claimed wins against Slovenia and Azerbaijan in the open and women’s sections respectively in the final round to stitch up the titles.

India etched its name in the annals of chess history by securing unprecedented double gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad. Both the Indian men's and women's teams emerged victorious in their respective categories,

It was a historic day in the Hungarian capital for Team India as they won gold for the first time ever in the tournament’s history, with their previous best performance being their bronze medal wins in Tromso 2014 and Chennai 2022 respectively.

India became the latest country to win the Chess Olympiad after it claimed the gold medal in the open section of the 45th edition of the tournament which took place in Hungary from September 10 to 23.

India’s title win was secured in the final round after second-placed China dropped points on two boards against the USA, while Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh clinched wins for the Indians against Slovenia.

The dominant Indian men's team returned to winning ways with an empathic win over a star-studded USA while the women's team stayed in the hunt beating China.
