As listed here, Ctrl+N should create a new document. It doesn't do that any more. I have tried these steps to fix it: File -> Options -> Customise Ribbon. Click on "Customise" button next to "Keyboard Shortcuts" In "Categories" box, select "All Commands".

Saving it under a different name or in a different location does not delete the one created when you used this method. Instead, why not simply open Word from your Start menu or Windows Search.
