Jul 26, 2015 · Aluminium and titainium are the only others ive welded that require purge Ive done some MIG and STT (surface tension transfer) stainless pipe welds, normally both need purge, but on 304 stainless at least with tri-mix gas (helium, Co2 and oxygen) you can use STT without purge as long as its set cold enough, comes out with black scale on it which brushes off, but passes x-ray and hardness testing

I am adding resonators to my exhaust system. Resonators are 304 the exhaust system is 409ss, I believe it's all 16g. 309L filler rod and a weldpro 220 tig. Probably will have some gap trying to use slip joints over the pipe. Exhaust has a x pipe and it would be a pain to cap n purge the entire v8 cat back exhaust. Is it necessary to back purge?

Mar 1, 2008 · I build HP gas manifolds all the time. WARNING You must use all high pressure rated fittings if you work between the tank and the regulator. Fittings you get at Depo WILL not work. Cost wold probably be prohibitve vs just getting a second tank. You'll still need 2 regs with a manifold and if you don't use the back gas the system would be awkward.
