The Dartmoor Way is a waymarked 108-mile (173km) long circular route around Dartmoor. This new way travels along quiet footpaths, bridleways and little-used byways passing through many of the attractive towns and villages that nestle on the edge of Dartmoor, offering a wide variety of food and accomodation.
The Dartmoor Way Walking Route Sections
The Dartmoor Way can be walked in either direction, however, the route directions are presented in an anti-clockwise direction. Ivybridge has been chosen as a recommended start point as it has a mainline railway station and is served by good bus connections.

The Dartmoor Way project was conceived back in 1999 with the aim of creating both cycling and walking routes around Dartmoor. A Steering Group was formed that comprised of representatives from the Dartmoor National Park Authority, local business's and members of the cycling and walking communities.

The Dartmoor Way was created in 2000 and is in use by walkers. This re-launch will extend the route around the Southern moor to create a full circular route. A volunteer team will reduce the cost of sign installation.

The Dartmoor Way | (OS) Bovey Tracey - Moretonhampstead
The route follows the road past houses at Knowle to meet a 4-way junction. Follow Dartmoor Way and Wray Valley Trail signs to the left; just before the road crosses the old railway line turn right to re-join the trail. The old railway line is now followed up to Moretonhampstead, interspersed with sections of newly created cycle track.
