I guess Apple Pencil is generating a PIN and it's transferred using the lightning connector, in that case, you need to figure out a way to retrieve it. Apple Pencil may also not require a PIN, then you need to tell the host to use Apple Pencil as an input device.

Dec 15, 2018 · You can open settings app and see the serial number of the paired pencil if you tap in General and look towards the bottom of the data. Tap Apple Pencil and you can see details. You can't edit the name in the bluetooth settings - but the name there does match what's shown elsewhere "Apple Pencil" in English.

Worked charmingly, including with Apple Pencil. Recently updated to Mac OS 14.4, and Apple Pencil no longer reacts to the desktop display on the iPad, but works with the SideBar and TouchBar.
