We only recommend using a multi-point stilt when you fire to cone 5 to cone 10. The higher temp firings can warp metal points, and extra points are needed for strength! Only use stilts when firing at higher fire as a last resort.

The stilt's purpose is to hold the piece off the shelf, so the glaze does not glue the piece to the shelf when it melts. Using High Fire Stilts when firing stoneware or porcelain may cause the piece to deform.

Stilts serve one important purpose, to keep fully glazed wares from sticking to the shelf during the firing process. Lacking stilts you will need to dry foot, which means no glaze on the entire bottom of the wares or points of contact with the shelf, such as a rimmed foot, hence the phrase dry-foot.
