Does it matter if you use flat or round ethernet cables?
Jul 9, 2018 · There are many flat ethernet cables (cat5e to cat7) having great reviews on Amazon. For in wall, like aigo said, round one has more rigidity and easier to pull/fish. Prefer flat ones for patch cables, it takes less space and looks good and also lighter.

Aug 10, 2000 · These units, built by Targus and Belkin, use a flat build for the cable. I was curious as to anyone's opinion/insight on the inherent flaw of having a completely flat ethernet cable. Without any twists along the entire run, these cables would never fullly realize the potential of a simple 10/100 network right?

Apr 11, 2003 · Regular Cat5 will support GigE. However, unless your cables are fairly old, chances are they are Cat5e cables. As far as checking, take a look at the printing on the cable. Almost all cable that I have seen has some sort of identification as to which type of cable it is.

It's not rated as anything and consists only of 8 parallel (stranded) wires embedded in a common flat plastic sheath, with each wire about 1 mm apart from the next. The cable is terminated on each end with an RJ45 connector. On a Gigabit network, I get only 93 Mbps.
