The Department of Philosophy at San Francisco State is a dynamic teaching and research program with a long history of achievement. We offer B.A. degrees in Philosophy, Philosophy and Religion, a Concentration in Philosophy and Law, an M.A. degree, and a rich array of courses that address the diverse backgrounds of our faculty and students.
Master of Arts in Philosophy
We offer a two-year program leading to a Master of Arts in Philosophy. We admit students who have a B.A. in Philosophy, but we also admit students with undergraduate degrees in other fields.

Advising | Department of Philosophy
Office: HUM 387. Professor Azadpur handles all matters regarding continuing students. This includes petitions concerning prerequisites, Advancement to Candidacy (ATC) and Proposal for Culminating Experience (PCE) forms.

Program Requirements: A minimum of 41 units. PHIL 205 - Formal Logic I. PHIL 300- Academic and Professional Pathways. PHIL 303- Modern Philosophy.
Fall 2022 Undergraduate Course Descriptions - Philosophy
PHIL 630 – Philosophy of Language. This course examines important debates about the nature of linguistic meaning and the centrality of those debates in contemporary philosophy. We will pay particular attention to the works of Russell, Frege, Kripke, Wittgenstein, Millikan, and Chomsky.
