Had issues with the mobile app and desktop site, then tried deactivating and reactivating the PS4 as mentioned here. That didn't work for me (unfortunately), but going through the Playstation Store on the PS4 to make the purchase did! Just wanted to mention for others to also try this out.

the website constantly logs me out and when i try to log back in, it says "cant connect to the server" followed by a code, something like " 18.df4f4317.1700028389.2c52012" which changes every time. i talked to PS support and they said that they have been having issues for the last few days but it should be fixed in the next 1-2 days. here we are 2 weeks later and still have this issue.

The playstation store doesn't like non-standard addresses. For example, I have a proton mail address that ends in "@ PM.ME ". I change my PS account email address to ones that ends in ".com" and it worked immediately after the change.
